This organization is unique. SALA assisted living homes are affordable and provide a family home environment with flexibility in services and program needs. Members' homes are found throughout Maryland from rolling hills and mountains to urban/suburban or seashore settings. SALA providers have years of experience with assisting families in making the best living arrangement for their loved ones. Persons can apply for services of SALA providers regardless of current residency or state of origin.
Features which distinguish SALA member homes from others include:

- Leisure activities are offered based upon interest and ability, never forced.
- Housekeeping, maintenance and laundry are completed by support staff.

- Accommodate those with limited fixed incomes.
- Cooperation with family members in making and managing doctor's appointments.
- Rehabilitation and accommodations for other specical needs.
- Resident input for meals and activity planning.
At the same time, SALA homes also provide the standard array of assisted living services as required by MD state law:
- Personal assistance with "activities of daily living" as well as medication monitoring and management are standard.
- Three meals and two snacks per day, planned in advance and approved by a registered dietician.
- Housekeeping and laundry service.
